Early in January 2014, the Deafblind Coalition of Ontario met to create a consistent and equitable process for identifying individuals who may be functionally deafblind. While there are some identification processes already in place, the DBCO members, Centre Jules-Léger, W. Ross Macdonald School and other service providers, agree that there is a need to develop them further. During the last few months, the Coalition developed a position paper outlining recommendations on a comprehensive identification framework for individuals who are functionally deafblind. The goal is to ensure a consistent approach across the sector and the spectrum of individuals who are deafblind.

Deafblindness is a unique condition which impacts individuals in different ways, and to different degrees. The Coalition is committed to developing an identification process that reflects the entire spectrum of deafblindness. Subsequently, the Coalition wants to ensure that your voice is heard on the future of Intervenor Services in Ontario, and we need your help! We need your feedback on the position paper.
